Colorado 2009

Over winter break we took a trip out to Colorado to visit Brolan's parents. The kids affectionately call them "Grandma and Grandpa in the Mountains" because that is where they live...in the mountains. Their house is in a subdivision that climbs up the side of the mountain and everywhere you look you can see the mountains. It is such a beautiful place to visit during any season but we particularly love the winter out there. Why you might ask? Because it means we get to go skiing! Our favorite place to ski is at Snowmass which is one of the Aspen mountains. On our first ski day the conditions were great. Ian spent the day in ski school and me, Brolan, and Brolan's dad hit the slopes. Kaelyn and Sami did not want to ski so they spent the day with Grandma watching movies and doing crafts. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the day.

This is a view of one of the runs that we skied.

We always finished our ski day with a relaxing dip in the hot tub.

This was our view from the hot tub.

The second ski day was quite snowy. I only made it until lunch time before I was pooped out. It was a lot of work pushing through 6" of powder. The third day of skiing meant a special trip for the girls. The grandparents brought them to the ski hill to take a ride in the gondola. They were so excited to ride up the mountain side with us.

When we got to the top they were able to get out a take a look around and snap a quick picture.

Then they hopped back in the gondola and they were able to watch us ski down the hill right next to the gondola. We skied all the way down right along side of the gondola so that the girls could watch.

Sami was so excited watching everyone ski that she said that next time she wants to learn how to ski. Kaelyn was still not convinced and said that she still doesn't think she wants to ski.

Our final day of skiing was just perfect. Ian was done with ski school and was able to ski with us. He was so excited because he finally graduated to using ski poles and wanted to show off! And boy did he show off. He is becoming a great skier. He is sure to pass up his mom soon!

Ian even skied a black diamond run.

His favorite ski of the day was going to the terrain park and going over the boxes. He is quite the daredevil.

Brolan had to give it a try too! Like father, like son.

On Friday Brolan's parents took us on a special trip. We got to take a sleigh ride to a restaurant. The only way to reach this restaurant was by snowshoe, cross country skiing or a horse drawn sleigh. On the way there the sun was shining and the mountains were all around us.

Here is a picture of the restaurant.

This is a picture of the view we had from our table.

It was quite a special and unique experience!
All-in-all we had a great time and we were all happy to be able to spend time with "grandma & grandpa in the mountains"!
